Doctrine and Covenants 17 | |
1 BEHOLD, I say unto you, that you must rely upon my word, which if you do with full purpose of heart, you shall have a view of the plates, and also of the breastplate, the sword of Laban, the Urim and Thummim, which were given to the brother of Jared upon the mount, when he talked with the Lord face to face, and the miraculous directors which were given to Lehi while in the wilderness, on the borders of the Red Sea. | 1 1 While technically the Lord could use whatever words he would like to, it is strange that his words in modern revelation would be so unoriginal and highly dependent on the text of the KJV bible. Compare this verse with "with full purpose of heart" to Acts 11:23 with "with purpose of heart". Note that the phrase "purpose of heart" is unique within the KJV bible. Also compare this verse with "upon the mount, when he talked with the Lord face to face" to Deuteronomy 5:4 with "The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount". Note that of the 11 instances of the phrase "face to face" within the KJV bible, only the verse in Deuteronomy chapter 5 also contains the word "mount". |
