Jacob 3 | |
1 1 The phrase contained in this verse matches that found in Matthew 5:8 of the KJV bible. While there are other bible verses that mentions a "pure heart", the verse in Matthew 5 is the only one that mentions the "pure in heart". Stranger still is how there are two other separate parallels in Jacob chapter 3 to Matthew chapter 5. Both Jacob 3:5 and Matthew 5:20 compare the righteousness of followers to a different group that is perceived to be less righteous. And both Jacob 3:9 and Matthew 5:11 speak of people that may "revile" or do something else "against" a group.

5 Behold, the Lamanites your brethren, whom ye hate because of their filthiness and the cursing which hath come upon their skins, are more righteous than you; for they have not forgotten the commandment of the Lord, which was given unto our father--that they should have save it were one wife, and concubines they should have none, and there should not be whoredoms committed among them. | RacismDark Skin 52 If the apologists are right that the Lamanite cursing was not a skin of darkness, what was “the cursing which hath come upon their skins”? |

7 Behold, their husbands love their wives, and their wives love their husbands; and their husbands and their wives love their children; and their unbelief and their hatred towards you is because of the iniquity of their fathers; wherefore, how much better are you than they, in the sight of your great Creator? | 7 1 There are several KJV bible verses that contain similarities with Jacob 3:7,9. The phrase "I give unto" occurs 13 times, but only once in conjunction with the word “commandment,” which is in John 13:34. Variations of the verb “revile” (revile + reviled + reviling + revileth) are found in 7 bible verses, but only once with the word “against” within the verse, Matthew 5:11. The phrase "remember your own" only occurs once in the KJV, which also refers to sins and includes the words “shall” and “ye.” There is only one instance of "which is the word of God" found in the KJV bible, Ephesians 6:17. The phrase "love your wives" occurs twice, both with “husbands” immediately preceeding it. One of the instances is in Ephesians 5:25, only one chapter away from the Ephesians 6. |
RacismDark Skin 81 Isn’t this expressing that, at least for the descendants of Lehi, “White skin good—Dark skin bad”?
9 Wherefore, a commandment I give unto you, which is the word of God, that ye revile no more against them because of the darkness of their skins; neither shall ye revile against them because of their filthiness; but ye shall remember your own filthiness, and remember that their filthiness came because of their fathers. | 9 |

11 O my brethren, hearken unto my words; arouse the faculties of your souls; shake yourselves that ye may awake from the slumber of death; and loose yourselves from the pains of hell that ye may not become angels to the devil, to be cast into that lake of fire and brimstone which is the second death. | 11 |
