Lineage-DNA 51 “To [a] group of Saints in the South Seas, President [Spencer W.] Kimball observed: ‘President Joseph F. Smith, the president of the Church, reported, “You brothers and sisters from New Zealand, I want you to know that you are from the people of Hagoth.” For New Zealand Saints, that was that. A prophet of the Lord had spoken’” (Book of Mormon Student Manual for Religion 121-122, p. 261). Yet, New Zealand was probably not peopled until 1250 or 1300 CE, and the evidence indicates that they came by way of East Asia and Indonesia, not the Americas (When was New Zealand first settled?). My understanding is that the evidence for Maori origins is from many lines, including DNA, linguistics, and archaeological artifacts.

8 1 This verse contains several strong parallels to two separate KJV New Testament verses. Compare this verse with "And we suppose that they were drowned in the depths of the sea" to Matthew 18:6 with "and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea". Note that there is 1 instance of "depth of the sea" and 3 instances of "depths of the sea" in the KJV bible, but only the verse in Matthew contains a variation of the verb "drown". Also compare this verse with "and whither she did go we know not" to John 14:5 with "we know not whither thou goest". Note that a search of related terms (see whither+know+knowest+knew+go+goest+went) shows that the strongest matches are all within the Gospel of John (John 8:14 and John 14:5) except for one post-600 B.C. verse (Nehemiah 2:16). 1 Alma 63:5-10

Wordy 111 In spite of how difficult it is to engrave on metal plates, the author finds it necessary to explain that the son of Helaman, who is called Helaman, is “called after the name of his father.” This kind of redundancy would not be expected in engravings in metal plates. “I cannot write but a little of my words, because of the difficulty of engraving our words upon plates” (Jacob 4:1).
