2 1 To add to a-bom's list of things I'd cast away, a big one would be Exodus 21:1-21 which outlines the rules for owning slaves, including Exodus 21:20-21 which says that beating slaves is ok as long as they don't die because the slave "is his money". 1 For example, many would cast out:
- The revelations of James J. Strang and the “Book of the Law of the Lord” of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite). They claim to be true Church ([Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints](https://www.ldsstrangite.com/) ).
- The Quran
- [“The Sealed Portion—The Final Testament of Jesus Christ”](https://www.realilluminati.org/the-sealed-portion) (This book claims to be the second part of the Book of Mormon from the plates Joseph Smith could not translate because they were sealed.)
3 1 In this verse the phrase "mine eyes water my pillow by night" seems original and poetic, but it actually borrowed most of that from KJV passage Psalms 6:6-7. Note that both contain "mine eyes" / "mine eye", "water by pillow" / "water my couch", and "by night" / "all the night".
4 And I know that the Lord God will consecrate my prayers for the gain of my people. And the words which I have written in weakness will be made strong unto them; for it persuadeth them to do good; it maketh known unto them of their fathers; and it speaketh of Jesus, and persuadeth them to believe in him, and to endure to the end, which is life eternal. | 4 |
5 1 The presumption is that these words are true and that God will make this clear to all those who are not of the devil. I’m thinking about similar rhetoric I’ve read about the Quran or regarding teachings of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. It seems to be an effective way to stop critical thinking about the teaching of these other religions.

10 And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good. | 10 2 Really? Aren’t there millions of people who devoutly believe in Christ who have heard of the Book of Mormon and even those who have read the Book of Mormon who think this book is just a work of 19th century fiction or, worse yet, a work of the devil himself? |
11 And if they are not the words of Christ, judge ye--for Christ will show unto you, with power and great glory, that they are his words, at the last day; and you and I shall stand face to face before his bar; and ye shall know that I have been commanded of him to write these things, notwithstanding my weakness. | 11 |
